Sometimes, the feet suffer from so many problems, as they are one of the most used parts of the human body. They are prone to fungal infections, sprains, bunions, swelling, and other foot dilemmas. These can be cured by application of treatment creams, by surgery, or they can be corrected by shoe orthotics.

Orthotics is actually a branch of medicine that is more of a specialty field. It deals with the creation and the usage of a special kind of shoe insert that aims to correct common foot problems. This device also goes by the name orthosis.

This special material is utilized due top the many functions that it can carry out. Primarily, it aims to guide and limit the movements of the extremities, which in this case is the foot. It is also used when the doctor feels it can help correct or cure a problem. It moves along with the feet, making sure that it moves the way it should be to prevent the development of any more feet related problems.

It is also widely used as a from of support for recovery when the cast is removed from a broken leg. It effectively lifts the weight off the sole to allow for a more faster healing. If the foot does not heal the way it should, then its function might become heavily affected.

Orthotics are used for certain problems. They either solve the problem, or just make it more bearable so that it will not hinder in the normal function of the entire system. One of the foot problems that is effectively corrected with the use of such device is the condition known as Achilles tendonitis. It is signified by the swelling of the Achilles tendon, and it is a dilemma shared by most runners and athletes all over the world. The use of the orthosis is scientifically proven to stop the progression of the said condition so that the affected part has enough time to heal.

Another ailment that strikes runners is the one called as metatarsalgia. People who are not into sports can also suffer from one, especially if one wears a footwear that could be several sizes too small. The use of the orthotics for this condition is to serve as a shock absorber to relieve some of the weight and the pressure.

Flat feet is the condition wherein the foot does not have any noticeable arches. This can affect one feet or both at the same time and are believed to be caused by loose connections in the joints. This typically is not at all painful, but when it does, doctors often suggest the use of orthosis. This is not used to cure nor correct the condition, of course, but as a way to relieve the patient of the pain.

Other problems include the presence of the corns in the feet, the occurrence of bunions and other problems. The utilization of orthosis can help alleviate their symptoms. Generally, they are available in the market, but you can have custom made ones that will truly correct every unique condition.
